Meet our wholefoods supplier – Highland Wholefoods
We’ve started introducing you to some of our suppliers so you know where we select our fabulous products from as options at varying meal times or as ingredients in our dishes. Our suppliers and The Lovat hotel share similar core values and mission of quality and sustainability – creating an excellent partnership.
This week we’re highlighting The Lovat hotel’s wholefoods supplier – Highland Wholefoods.
Established in 1989, Highland Wholefoods is a 100% vegetarian business, supplying the Highlands, Islands and Northeast Scotland. They have the largest range of fair trade, organic, gluten free, vegan, GM-free, cruelty free and ethical products under one roof in the Highlands – their warehouse space extends to almost 6000² ft and contains over 4000 lines.
They are a wholesaler, delivering throughout the area, and are also open to the public. Customers are welcome to go in to the Inverness showroom where you can browse the extensive range of products and purchase anything from a 25kg sack of flour to a 35g bar of organic raw chocolate!
As a workers cooperative, they are wholly owned and democratically run by 10 worker-members. As with all cooperatives, they are driven by cooperative values and a sustainable ethos; they believe that good healthy food and ethical products should be available to all, and endeavour to deliver these to consumers in even the most remote areas. Ethically minded consumers, when given the choice, can change the world for the better.
